Indonesia's corruption perception index in 2008 improved a little to 2.6 compared with 2.3 in 2007.
"Corruption eradication efforts in the country would continue, though, according to the non-governmental organization Transparency International, Indonesia's Corruption Perception Index had improved," the state Antara news agency on Wednesday quoted Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as saying.
The anti-corruption drive did not depend only on the government but also on the support of all institutions including executive, judicative and legislative.
"We are glad for our efforts to eradicate corruption concretely but not for the index, which is not important," he said at the State Palace.
The president said corruption eradication efforts prevents the country from slowdown in government performance and procurement of goods and services, and the campaign must not stop.
"My hope is serious and fair law enforcement for all. I have never hindered an investigation on anyone, including relatives, friends and government officials," he said.
President Yudhoyono attributed the index growth to that the performance of tax, customs and excise offices was improved. He also said prevention was more important than repression.
Indonesia was engaged in fighting against corruption after President Yudhoyono stepped up. His administration arrested a numbers of law makers and head of provincial areas, who could never been put into jail during the era of former president. Source: Xinhua
