Nepali Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam said Wednesday the government will increase relief funds to help the victims of floods in western region of the country.

Gautam said the government has decided to allocate 500 million Nepali rupees (around 6.8 million U.S. dollars) to help tens of thousands of people displaced by floods in several rivers in mid-western and far-western region of the country.

Formerly, the Nepali government on Tuesday provided 15.5 million Nepali rupees (some 210 thousand U.S. dollars) as relief for flood victims in western Nepal.

"The relief and rehabilitation will be carried out immediately. You need not worry," local news website Nepalnews.com on Wednesday quoted Gautam as saying, during an interaction with the Constituent Assembly (CA) members representing the western regions.

Gautam hinted that the government was considering providing 5 billion rupees (around 67.6 million U.S. dollars) for the relief and reconstruction of the area.

Around 50 persons have died while tens of thousands have been displaced due to floods in mid-western and far-western Nepal.
