The Supreme Court of Thailand on Friday issued another arrest warrant against the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra after he failed to turn up for the first hearing of a lottery trial.
The Criminal Division for Holders of Political Office also suspended the trial against Thaksin but proceeded with the trial against 46 other defendants.
Thaksin, who was ousted during a military coup in 2006, and 46 other defendants were accused of malfeasance for their role in approving the sale of two- and three-digit lottery when he was in office through 2001 to 2006.
On Friday, 46 defendants, apart from Thaksin, reported themselves to the court. They denied all the charges.
The court now decided to examine evidence on Dec. 22-24.
Soon after the coup in 2006, Thaksin was charged in several cases. After he announced his political asylum state in England this July, the Supreme Court has issued three arrest warrants against him due to his absence to the trials.
