Pakistan's security forces have killed over 1,000 militants in northwestern Pakistan's Bajaurtribal region since the military operation was launched last month, said an army commander Friday.

Tariq Khan, inspector general of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC), said that 27 soldiers had also been killed in the fighting in the troubled tribal agency on the Afghan border.

The Pakistan army launched the military operation on Aug. 6 and the 50-day military offensive had displaced about 300,000 local people in the tribal region.

Khan said five militant commanders were also killed during the operation, four of whom are foreigners.
