It was necessary for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to consolidate its war deterrent against possible invasion from the United States and South Korea, the official Minju Joson daily said Sunday.

"The prevailing situation proves that the army and people of the DPRK were just," said a commentary carried by the Minju Joson, noting a joint military plan by the United States and South Korea to stage a largest-ever landing operation exercises in early November.

"U.S. was meticulously and undisguisedly pushing forward its scheme to swallow up the whole of Korea by igniting a war of aggression against the DPRK," said the article.

It warned that the United States and South Korea would suffer "incomparably graver punishment than they did in the war of the 1950s" if they launch a war against the DPRK.

The DPRK media have intensified a rhetoric war against the United States since the six-party talks designed to halt DPRK's nuclear programs came to a deadlock.

The official KCNA news agency on Thursday quoted a military source as saying that the United States has been fully prepared for an aggression war against the DPRK.
