Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta on Sunday declined to confirm the reported talks between the Afghan government and Taliban militants.

"I utterly deny that there is any contact between the foreign ministry and the Taliban militants about the negotiations," he told newsmen at a regular press conference in the Afghan capital of Kabul when his opinion was sought with regard to the report published by Britain newspaper the Observer.

The British newspaper on Sunday reported that with the mediation of Saudi Arabia, contact had been established between the Afghan government and Taliban in order to find a peaceful end to conflict in Afghanistan.

However, he asserted that talks can be held with those Afghans who accept the constitution of Afghanistan.

Taliban fighters who in the past refused any proposal for talks with the government have yet to make comment on Observer's report.
