Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced Sunday that he will join the 2009 election race for a second term, local newspaper the Jakarta Post reported.
Yudhoyono is an Indonesian retired military general. He accepted the nomination of the Democratic Party and won the presidency in the 2004 presidential election, in which he defeated incumbent President Megawati Sukarnoputri.
Yudhoyono assumed office on October 20, 2004, together with Jusuf Kalla as Vice President.
