A military man was kidnapped by several gunmen, who are alleged to be ex-seapratist rebels, in northern Aceh province, but later released unharmed, police said on Monday.
The soldier named Sayiful Afwani was abducted in Leube village on Sunday morning and the kidnappers asked for a ransom of 30 million rupiah (about 3,200 U.S. dollars), said Aceh police spokesman Farid Ahmad.
"A soldier was arrested by gunmen yesterday. They asked for 30 millions," he told Xinhua on telephone from the province. He added that Afwani was released on Monday morning.
"He was left by several gunmen with hand tied up," said Ahmad.
Oil- and gas-rich Aceh in the northern tip of Sumatra Island was torn by a three-decade of fighting between the government troops and rebels that left over 15,000 people dead before a peace deal was achieved in 2005 allowing Aceh to have self-rule government.
The kidnapping is the second in a week. Last Tuesday the former separatists also abducted a French World Bank consultant in the province and asked for a ransom for more than 30,000 U.S. dollars after they took the consultant's cash and car.
