Pakistan's security forces will continue operations against militants in tribal regions and Swat valley in the northwest, officials said on Monday.

The News Network International news agency quoted officials as saying that the operation, which was backed by political leadership, was a continued process.

The operations would continue until the areas were purged from militants, they said, adding that the government wanted the operation to continue till the end.

A senior security official disclosed that there were unconfirmed reports that deputy chief of Pakistani Taliban Maulvi Faqir had moved to the tribal region of Mohmand.

The security forces have been cracking down on militants in tribal areas and also Swat valley in North West Frontier Province. Local media reports said that the Pakistani government was mulling a major operation against militants in the areas.
