The kidnapped Afghan envoy has been released in northwestern Pakistan, local media reported on Tuesday.

Afghan ambassador-designate to Pakistan Abdul Khaliq Farahi was kidnapped in the northwest Pakistani city of Peshawar last Monday.

The vehicle carrying Farahi was attacked by unidentified gunmen in the Hayatabad area of Peshawar, and his driver was killed in the attack.

"Farahi had reached the city (Peshawar) after his recovery and was safe and sound," The News newspaper said.

But it was not clear who was responsible for holding Farahi. There was also no word on the identity of the kidnappers and the terms of the Farahi's release.
