Ten Indonesians died their boat capsized on its way from Malaysia to Indonesia, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

The wooden boat carrying more than 100 people departed from Pulau Cermai of Malaysia to Tanjung Balai of Karimun, Indonesia, said Teguh Wardoyo, director of protection for Indonesian citizen of the ministry said.

Eleven people died in the mishap and ten of them are Indonesians, he told Xinhua.

The director said that 112 people have been rescued and scores of those injured were rushed to nearby Tengku Ambunan Hospital in Kelang of Slangor, Malaysia.

He said that the rescue operation is still under way.

Wardoyo said that the boat was overloaded with Indonesian migrants wanting to return home for celebrating the Islamic festivity Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday.

Besides, he said that poor weather was blamed for the accident.

"The boat was overcrowded and it sailed amid huge waves," he said.

The director said that Indonesian representatives in Malaysia would persistently provide assistance to Indonesian citizen suffering from the sea accident.

It is estimated that more than 2 million legal migrants and about 700,000 illegal, mostly from Indonesia, are doing mainly low-wages jobs in Malaysia.
