One civilian was killed and four others were wounded in eastern Afghan province of Lunar province Friday morning during a clash between militants and the patrol of Afghan National Army (ANA), according to a statement issued by the Coalition forces.
Militants engaged the joint forces with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades while ANA soldiers returned fire, the statement said, adding "militants not only attack the patrol, but also the local village and surrounding corn fields as well."
However, ANA troops at no time fire weapons into the corn fields or the village, it noted.
"The body of the civilian was recovered and returned to his village and ANA provided immediate medical care to the wounded and transported them to a medical facility for treatment," it said.
No service members were wounded in the attack and the incident is under investigation, it added.
No one or individuals have yet to claimed responsibility but Taliban militants have carried out several similar attacks against interests of the government and international troops inflicting civilian casualties.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed over 4,000 people's lives with more than 1445 civilians so far this year in the country.
