An unidentified gang detonated a powerful bomb at a mosque in eastern Nepal, leaving four injured, local news website eKantipur reported on Sunday.

The blast occurred at around 8:15 p.m. local time (1430 GMT) on Saturday evening at Hattimuda Village Development Committee of Morang district, some 240 km east of the Nepali capital Kathmandu.

The four injured are being treated at local Koshi Zonal Hospital.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast, according to the report.

Nazrul Hassan, president of a social organization Islami Sangh Nepal, denounced the attack and asked the government to take strong action against those involved in the criminal act and urged all Muslims to exercise restraint and keep intact religious harmony.

"This is a deliberate attempt to disturb religious harmony," he said. "The government must act tough against the elements behind such acts."
