Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Vice Admiral Noman Bashir as the new Naval Chief, according to private TV channel Geo.

The Defense Ministry had sent a summary to the president recommending the names of Vice Admiral Asif Humayan and Vice Admiral Noman Bashir for the position of Naval Chief, Geo reported.

Noman belongs to Naval Aviation and was serving as Commander in Karachi. He earlier served as Commander Aviation. The outgoing chief of naval staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir has retired after serving three years as naval chief.
