Malaysia is expected to enhance its national tsunami early warning system through implementing a second phase program, an official said on Monday.
Three additional seismic stations, 15 tide gauges, 24 coastal cameras and warning sirens as well as a more comprehensive operational earthquake assessment system would come under the second phase, said Sabah Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Yee Moh Chai.
Malaysia had completed the first phase of the system in 2007, which allowed Malaysia to issue warning guidance to agencies dealing in disaster management and the public within 15 minutes, he said at an international round-table dialogue on earthquake and tsunami in East Malaysia's Sabah State.
The first phase of the system involved the installation of 14 seismic stations, six tide gauges, four coastal cameras and 13 sirens, according to Malaysia's national news agency Bernama. Source:Xinhua
