Pakistan's security forces on Thursday continued their attacks on the militants' hideouts in the northwestern province, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

The security forces resumed shelling on the suspected hideouts of local militants in Darra Adam Khel, a town in North West Frontier Province, early Thursday morning, local Geo TV reported.

Sources said the exchange of fire from both sides continued for hours.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's security forces attacked the suspected positions of local militants in various parts of Swat valley of the NWFP, a region where the military said Taliban has taken control.

Reports said security forces' warplanes shelled the suspected militants' hideouts in several areas of Matta town of Swat.

Tensions have gripped several restive regions in northwestern Pakistan as the security forces launched offensive against militants.

Pakistan's Bajaur tribal agency bordering Afghanistan has become one of the militants' strongholds because the Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants kept sneaking into the Pakistani territory.

Pakistan's security forces on Wednesday killed 23 people in Bajaur tribal agency, and eight foreign militants were among the dead.

Military sources said earlier that over 1,000 militants had been killed in Bajaur's military operation launched last month.
