Nine militants were killed on Wednesday as a joint patrol of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and the U.S.-led Coalition forces clashed with militants in southern Afghan province of Helmand, said a Coalition statement issued on Thursday.
The joint force on patrol in Nahr Surkh district was attacked by militants using small arms, machine-gun and rocket-propelled grenade fire, the statement said.
"ANSF and Coalition forces maneuvered on the enemy position and returned fire ,killing nine militants," it said.
A cache of RPG(Rocket Propelled Grenade) rounds was discovered at the site, it said.
"No ANSF, Coalition forces or civilian casualties have been reported," it added.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency so far this year have claimed the lives of over 4,000 people, mostly militants, while Taliban and other anti-government outfits have intensified their activities targeting interests of Afghan government and international troops all over the war-torn country.
