The Indonesian government plans to plant about 100 million trees within a month's time starting Nov. 28 as part of its program to mark the centennial of National Awakening, a cabinet minister said here Thursday.
"President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will declare Nov. 28 as Indonesia's Planting Day. As part of the 100 years of National Awakening celebrations, about 100 million trees will be planted across the country," Antara news agency quoted Forestry Minister M.S. Kaban as saying.
Kaban said the Planting Day would be inaugurated in Banten province, where 100,000 trees would be planted on 250 hectares of land.
All provinces of the country will follow up the program, the minister said.
About 60 percent of the total trees would be hard wood trees. The government has prepared 280 billion rupiah (about 29 million U.S. dollars) funds to procure 100 million tree seedlings, he added.
