The Ibaraki prefectural government said Friday that the accident at a nuclear power station in Tokai, Ibaraki Prefecture, poses no risk to environment or human health.

According to media reports, smoke was detected at a solid waste material facility of the nuclear power station at around 6:35 a.m. local time (2135 GMT).

Operation of the power station was not suspended following the accident, said the reports.
