Singapore Maritime Week 2008, featuring meetings, seminars and dialogues on topical industry issues, kicked off here on Friday.
The 10-day-long business activities are expected to attract over 6,000 participants, up from 2,900 in 2006, and 4,500 in 2007,according to the organizer, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
The Singapore Maritime Lecture will feature International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Efthimios E. Mitropoulos sharing his insights on shipping and the issue of climate change.
The Singapore International Bunkering Conference will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss the environmental challenges faced by the marine fuel industry.
And there will be a Joint Oil Spill Exercise after the conference to test the country's effective and swift response to oil spill incidents. Source: Xinhua
