UN chief arrives in Nepali capital

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Kathmandu Friday evening to start his visit to Nepal at the invitation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda".

Coming from New Delhi, India, via United Nations' special aircraft, Ban was welcomed at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) by Nepali Minster for Foreign Affairs Upendra Yadav and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hisila Yami.

The U.N. chief would meet Prime Minister Prachanda on Friday evening and the prime minister would host a dinner party in his honor.

Ban is scheduled to address Members of Constituent Assembly at International Conference Center on Saturday.

During his visit, Ban is also scheduled to meet with President Ram Baran Yadav, chairperson of Constituent Assembly Subas Nemwang, and Minister for Foreign Affairs Upendra Yadav, Nepali national news agency RSS reported.

He would meet also with President Girija Prasad Koirala of the largest opposition party in the Constituent Assembly, Nepali Congress, and General Secretary Jhalanath Khanal of the coalition ruling party in the government led by Prachanda's Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), according to Nepali Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The U.N. secretary general is scheduled to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha and then would leave for Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh from Bhairahawa Airport on Saturday.
