Bangladeshi caretaker government Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury has strongly condemned Thursday's deadly serial bomb attack in the Indian state of Assam which reportedly killed more than 70 people and injured hundreds.

In a statement issued Friday, the foreign adviser termed the bomb attack an act of "cowardly terrorism".

"We strongly condemn the bomb blast in the Northeastern India that led to so many deaths and injuries," the adviser stated.

He added, "It is a cowardly act of terrorism. Violence cannot be a tool for achievement of political objectives."

Bangladesh is standing firmly beside their Indian neighbors at this sad hour, he added.

A series of coordinated blasts tore through Gauhati, the capital of Indian state of Assam, on Thursday, killing at least 77people and wounding more than 300.
