Pakistan has conveyed to the United States to respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity as frequent drone attacks could lead to anti-America sentiments as well as outrage and uproar among the people, Pakistan's defense ministry said on Monday.

The Federal Minister for Defense of Pakistan Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar held a meeting with the visiting U.S. defense delegation led by U.S. Commander of the United States Central Command General David Howell Petraeus in the Ministry of Defense, a ministry statement said.

Petraeus, accompanied by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Richard Boucher, arrived in Pakistan on Sunday night, according to News Network International (NNI) news agency.

"Both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and stressed the need for enhanced cooperation to eliminate the scourge of terrorism," the statement said.

The two sides discussed the security situation of the region with special focus on war on terror and Pak-Afghan border situation, according to NNI.

Pakistan was keen to promote peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan because politically stable and prosperous Afghanistan was not only in the interest of Pakistan but of the whole region, said Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar.

He also briefed Petraeus about the anti-terror efforts and the ongoing military operation against terrorists and violent extremist elements in the tribal areas.

The U.S. delegation was also informed about the security needs of Pakistan, in order to enhance its operational capabilities to help in curbing the terrorist elements, the statement said.

Patraeus said they would consider the request of Pakistan in this regard.

The U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Anne Paterson was also present at the meeting.
