Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said here on Tuesday that the impeachment of Iran's Interior Minister Ali Kordan was a great test for the parliament, State TV website reported.

"Majlis (parliament) proved that it will never show indulgence to anybody in defending the people's rights and in returning to the legal rights and running the country," Larijani said.

"Kordan's case is neither dark nor white but gray," he said, adding that "In spite of his many services, he (Kordan) made a mistake and this is not acceptable."

Larijani said although some had asked him to defend Kordan, "his action is not defendable and I will never support the false action."

Iranian parliament on Tuesday impeached Kordan for his fake honorary degree from Oxford University.

According to Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, Kordan's credential was sacked by the representatives' 188 ballots out of the 256 ballot cast in Tuesday's parliament meeting.

Kordan, who took up the cabinet post in August, acknowledged in a Sept. 27 letter that he was in possession of a forged Oxford University degree.

Ever since his announcement, Kordan has faced calls for his resignation or impeachment from the parliamentarians.

Kordan had asserted the degree was issued through a person who had opened an affiliate office in Tehran in English-language affairs.

He said he had pressed charges against the person, who claimed to represent Oxford University in Tehran, as soon as he found out his degree was fake.
