Roadside bombing on Tuesday killed three policemen and wounds two others while they were patrolling with their vehicle in Logar province, some 60 kilometers south from Afghan capital Kabul, a police official said on Wednesday.
Mohammad Jan Abed, the police chief of criminal department in Logar province, told Xinhua that it occurred at 4:00 p.m. local time (1130 GMT) when the police vehicle patrolling around the Zahid Abad area was struck by a remote-controlled bomb, leaving three policemen including one police commander Sabir dead.
"Two more policemen were wounded," Abed added. "The ill-fated policemen were in charge of security for the Aynak copper mine."
Meanwhile, Mullah Momine Hakimi, one local Taliban commander claimed responsibly for the attack by saying that five policemen were killed.
Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have claimed around 5,000 people, including over 1500 civilians, so far this year in strife-torn Afghanistan while Taliban insurgents have vowed to intensify assaults against interests of Afghan government and international troops before the coming winter.
