Foreign Ministers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam met in Hanoi on Thursday for the ACMECS (Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy)Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
During the meeting, the ministers summarized the progress achieved in the past five years in regional cooperation within the ACMECS framework, according to a press release issued by the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry.
They pointed out the cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion is entering a dynamic phase. The ACMECS should push forward pragmatic and effective cooperation in the subregion, especially in trade and investment, transportation, agriculture, industry and energy, medical and health, tourism and human resources development.
The ministers agreed to encourage companies in the five countries to participate in the cooperation projects within the ACMECS framework.
The ACMECS was established in 2003, with the aim to reduce development gap among member countries and enhance sustainable development in the region. The initiative features that member countries help each other, depend on one another's strengths and rely on their own resources.
