Supplies to the allied troops in Afghanistan from Pakistan Monday resumed after a week's suspension due to security concerns.
Hundreds of trucks and oil takers, which had been stopped at Peshawar, capital city of North West Frontier Province, were allowed to move to Afghanistan under tight security, the News Network International (NNI) news agency reported.
Suspected militants frequently hijack and attack oil tankers and supplies trucks for the United States-led allied forces in Pakistan's Khyber tribal agency.
The military supplies bound for Afghanistan were looted by militants in Khyber Agency last week, leading to a temporary suspension of transportation of supplies. Over 400 trucks and oil tankers, destined for Afghanistan, had been parked in Peshawar fora week and truck drivers also protested over the suspension, according to the NNI.
Earlier a jirga, or council of tribal elders, was held in Khyber and vowed to protect the supplies trucks and tankers for allied forces in Afghanistan.
