Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat reiterated on Monday his coalition government is prepared to hold talks with the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), who has led the protests and occupations of the Government House for nearly three months.

Somchai said that a group of well-intentioned persons is prepared to act as middlemen to negotiate with the PAD, and that he agreed with the idea.

He stressed that building reconciliation among the people is his government's policy. He said it needed time to solve problems.

Somchai urged anti-government protestors to vacate the Government House.

Somchai said he had requested the People's Alliance protestors to leave THE Government House, which they have held since August 26, for the sake of the country.

Somchai, who was appointed as prime minister in September, has not yet been able to work in the Government House. His government has to move the office to Don Muang airport.
