Five days of heave rains have flooded 40 of the 91 villages in a northern Philippine town near Ilagan, capital of Isabela province, with more towns and villages in foreseeable danger as a local dam is on the verge of releasing water, local media reported Saturday.

The area had already been placed under "state of calamity" but resources outside from other regions have yet to arrive, local news network GMA News said.

The police forces and disaster relief agents have joined the local government in the rescue operation, using motorized rubber boats to save residents trapped in deep water.

The report said the water level at the nearby Magat Dam reservoir is approaching the 192-meter critical line. Once the dam releases excess water, more Isabela towns are expected to be flooded, it said.
