Eight Canadian soldiers were injured in southern Afghanistan when the armored vehicle they were traveling in struck an improvised explosive device, Canadian media reported Saturday.

The accident occurred Friday when the soldiers were on patrol in the Arghandab district of Kandahar province, the reports said.

The soldiers were transferred to hospital where they remain in good condition.

Canada now has 2500 soldiers based in southern Afghanistan to fight the Taliban. Ninety-eight soldiers have died there, including 11 who were killed by roadside bombs this year.
