A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck the remote Kermadec Islands, north of New Zealand' North Island on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake hit the New Zealand territory, 990 km north east of Auckland city at 01:36 p.m. local time (0036 GMT) at a depth of 35km.
No casualties or damages were reported.
The islands, which are often rocked by severe quakes, have no permanent population.
