The NATO -led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) on Thursday countered rocket attempts attacking ISAF bases and eliminated several insurgents in Bermel district of eastern Afghan province of Paktika, said an ISAF statement released here on Friday.
ISAF troops fired six artillery rounds at the location where they saw two insurgents positioning rockets in preparation for an attack, it said.
"Within an hour, eight rockets were fired at the ISAF base. In response, ISAF fired four artillery rounds at the insurgents inside of Pakistan," it said.
Insurgents in a third attempt fired three rockets at the base while NATO troops returned fire 12 artillery rounds in response, it said. "Observers confirmed three secondary explosions and several killed insurgents."
"One Afghan security guard received minor wounds from the insurgents' attacks but there were no ISAF or civilian casualties reported," it said.
No group or individuals have yet to claim responsibility.
Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have claimed around 5,000 people with some 2,000 civilians so far this year in strife-torn Afghanistan while Taliban insurgents have vowed to intensify assaults against interests of Afghan government and international troops before the coming winter.
