Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the immediate repatriation of Filipinos in Bangkok amid the ongoing political tension in Thailand's capital, media reported Sunday.
Quoting Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, online news network GMA News said the Philippine Embassy in Thailand has been ordered to bring about 174 Filipinos to the northern city of Chiang Mai where they are going to be flown back to Manila.
Arroyo has also set aside an initial 15,000 U.S. dollars as emergency fund to cover the expenses of the confined Filipinos' flights back home.
Two major airports in Bangkok have been closed down after thousands of angry Thai protesters stormed into the buildings to block the entry of Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat.
The Thai government on Thursday declared a state of emergency at both airports.
