As many as 14 militants were killed in a raid by security forces in Pakistan's tribal area on Wednesday, private TV channel DAWN NEWS reported.

Jet fighters and helicopters hit suspected positions in Lakaro, a sub division of Mohmand tribal region bordering Afghanistan, said the report.

According to unconfirmed reports, 14 militants and seven civilians were killed in the air strike carried out in Ziarat, Ghaziabad, Bagh Pahar and Karier areas in Mohmand. Militants have a strong presence in these areas adjacent to Bajaur, according to DAWN NEWS.

The Geo TV channel put the death toll at 25.

The DAWN NEWS quoted a security official as saying that militants had suffered heavy casualties and all the dead were miscreants.

Local people said they saw four helicopter gunships targeting suspected positions in the villages.
