Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Pascal Lamy will determine if the next meeting in Geneva on Dec. 17 either to be proceeded or halted due to the pessimism and disappointment about the unachieved outcome of the previous meeting, an Indonesian official said here on Monday.
Gusmardi Bustami, the Indonesian Trade Ministry's Director General for International Trade Cooperation, said under pessimism and disappointment over the outcome of the previous talk in Geneva,153 member states of WTO plan to reach a settlement on multilateral trade issues at the next meeting.
Indonesia and the G33 group have worked constructively to find the convergence on the Special Safeguard Mechanism, while developed countries, which are comprised of the United States and European countries, attempt to find the convergence on Sensitive Products (SP) issues for agriculture sectors.
"If the meeting just go ahead, discussion will more focus on agriculture, especially Special Safeguard Mechanism (SSM), Sensitive Products (SP) and Preference Erosion (PE) for the agriculture sector," he said on the sideline of Monday's Press Conference in Jakarta.
Indonesia will feel disappointed if WTO would not come to a conclusion on the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) by the end of the year, said the Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu. Source:Xinhua
