The prospects of the DPRK-U.S. relations will entirely depend on the attitude of the United States, the official Rodong Sinmun daily said on Monday.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has never posed a threat to the security of the U.S. or harmed its interests, said a commentary carried by the Rodong Sinmun.

The "military threat" from the DPRK alleged by "the U.S. bellicose forces" was "sheer fiction and sophism designed to justify their policy of aggression towards the DPRK," it said.

Dialogue would help ease tension, it said. The DPRK-U.S. dialogues and the six-party talks that have been under way so far are all aimed at resolving the issue through dialogue, not through confrontation, it added.

The U.S. policy toward the DPRK would leave the latter no other choice but to strengthen its defense capabilities, said the commentary.

The U.S. Congress in a recent report urged the upcoming Obama administration to make all efforts to deter the DPRK from developing nuclear weapons, saying that Washington would not rule out direct military action against Pyongyang, according to DPRK media.
