An intense earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale jolted seas east Honshu of Japan, at 0923GMT on Sunday, the Hong Kong Observatory said in a news bulletin here Sunday evening.

The epicenter was initially determined by the Hong Kong Observatory to be at 36.6 degrees north latitude and 142.3 degrees east longitude, about 230 km southeast of Sendai, Japan.
