Over 100 passengers were stuck in the Singapore Flyer, the world's largest observation wheel, when it grounded to a halt Tuesday afternoon, local media reports.
According to Channelnewsasia's report, the 165-meter tall wheel stopped running at about 5 p.m. local time (0900 GMT), with over 100 people occupied in its 23 capsules. A technical error was announced a few minutes later and a technical team has been sent to fix the problem.
"Everybody was calm, but initially the air conditioner was switched off, so it was very hot due to the evening sun." Lim BoonSiang, a passenger stuck in one of the capsules was quoted in the report.
The broadcaster said the Flyer was still not moving at about 7 p.m. (1100 GMT).
The wheel is about 42 stories high and it takes about half an hour for a ride. Each capsule can take up to 28 people.
This is the third time the Flyer encountered such problems since it came into operation in this February. The latest report of a technical problem was on Dec. 4.
