Fifty people who were having a Christmas party were injured after the floor of an overloaded floating cottage suddenly caved in, local police said Monday.

Forty-nine victims, mostly women of a local clothing company, sustained minor injuries while one was hospitalized in Cadiz city of Negros Occidental province, online news network Inquirer.Net quoted Jefferson Descallar, Cadiz police commander, as saying.

The report said the bamboo floor collapsed when as many as 200 people cramped in a floating cottage, which can hold only 50 persons, at the Seafront Resort in Cadiz to celebrate the Christmas at around 4:00 p.m. local time (0800 GMT) on Sunday.

Police said everybody entered the cottage because a raffle was being conducted and their collective weight caused the cave-in.
