Singapore and Vietnam held an inaugural defense policy dialogue on Monday, local media reported.

Leaders from both countries exchanged views on regional security issues and areas of defense cooperation, according to local broadcaster Channel newsasia's report.

The dialogue is a forum to advance bilateral defense relations between the two countries, the report said.

The meeting was co-chaired by Singapore's Defence Permanent Secretary Chiang Chie Foo and Vietnamese Vice-Minister of National Defence Colonel-General Nguyen Huy Hieu, who is on a four-day visit to Singapore.
