Singapore will introduce a variety of special Olympic education programs to all its schools in 2009, according to an official statement on Monday.
A specially designed education resource package that teach about the Olympic movement will be conducted at all primary and secondary schools as well as pre-university colleges and institutions in Singapore, said the statement, jointly issued by the country's Ministry of Education and Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC).
"Teachers can draw on the various interesting ideas in the package to develop innovative learning activities for students to acquire knowledge about the Olympics and understand the Olympic spirit in a fun way," said the statement.
Under another program named Friends@YOG, each Singapore school will be paired with one of the 204 national Olympic committees, which means during the YOG, local students will get to take part in various activities with athletes from their twinned committee.
Singapore's Education Minister Ng Eng Hen said in the statement that his ministry hopes to encourage participation in at least one sports activity for every child.
Singapore is to host the first Youth Olympic Games in 2010, during when up to 3,200 athletes aged between 14 to 18 and 800 officials are expected to participate in the 12-day summer games.
