Two people were killed and more than a dozen injured in post-election violence Tuesday in Bangladesh's Pabna district, 216 km northwest of capital Dhaka.

Manzur Kadir, head of the district, told Xinhua the two people were dead in separate clashes.

In one incident, two families, one is supporting the winning party of Awami League led by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and the other one is supporting the losing party of Bangladesh Nationalist Party led by former prime minister Khaleda Zia, clashed, killing one member of the family supporting BNP, Kadir said.

In another incident, Awami League supporters held a procession and clashed with BNP supporters, and one BNP supporter died of heart attack while running away from the clash scene.

Bangladesh Election Commission announced Tuesday morning Awami League won a landslide victory bagging 229 seats out of 295 seats in the country's 9th Parliamentary elections.

According to the Commission, a total of 1,555 candidates from 39 parties and independents contested 299 seats out of 300 seats in Parliament. The election for one seat was postponed to be held on Jan. 12 due to the death of one candidate.
