The leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) wished for a steady development of its ties with Cuba on Wednesday in a greeting message on Cuba's50th National Day.

"The traditional comradely relations of friendship and cooperation between the parties, governments and peoples of the two countries will steadily develop," said Kim Jong Il and Kim Yong Nam, top legislator, in the message, quoted by the official KCNA.

The DPRK will firmly support Cuba in their cause to defend sovereignty and oppose imperialists, they said.

Jan. 1 marks the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Cuban revolution.
