The Sunlander passenger train, carrying 127 people, has collided with a garbage truck in Innisfail, far north Queensland in east Australia, on Thursday, killing the truck driver.

A number of passengers were injured, the Queensland Ambulance Service said.

Police said the accident occurred at about 11.20 a.m. local time in the Innisfail suburb of Mundoo.

A spokeswoman for Emergency Management Queensland said seven people were being treated on the scene and two of them have been taken to Innisfail Hospital, according to a report by Australian Associated Press.

Four fire crews are currently at the scene, together with multiple crews from the Queensland Ambulance Service, the report said.
