At least seven Vietnamese people were dead or missing in the abnormal rains and floods in the central Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces of Vietnam in the past three days, the local newspaper Young People reported Friday.

In Quang Nam province, with the estimated rainfalls from 200 to300 millimeters, three people were reported dead or missing. More than 5,000 hectares of spring-winter crops have been flooded, said the newspaper.

Meanwhile, the unseasonal floods hitting Quang Ngai caused four dead or missing, more than 10,000 hectares of newly-cultivated rice paddy inundated, the newspaper said.

Some streets in Quang Ngai were a meter deep under water, causing difficulties in transportation.

The Central Hydro-meteorology Forecasting Centre warned of more heavy downpours on Friday in central provinces. Waters are expected to exceed level three, the very dangerous grade used by Vietnam Central Committee for Flood Control and Prevention.
