A moderate earthquake of 5.9 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan in the wee hours of Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake hit Afghanistan at around 3:43 a.m. (2313 GMT Sunday)at the depth of 180 km in Hindu Kush region, some 278 km northeast from capital city of Kabul.

No loss of people's life or property was reported so far.

It was the third earthquake jolted the mountainous country in the past 10 days as the last one measuring 6.2 magnitude rattled Afghanistan just a day before.
