A strong earthquake rattled northeastern Afghanistan and Pakistan early Monday but apparently did not cause any injuries or significant damage, early reports said.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the 6.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at 3:43 a.m. (23:13 GMT Sunday). Its epicenter was at a depth of 190 kilometers in a mountainous area near the Afghan-Pakistan border, about 275 kilometers northeast of the Afghan capital Kabul.

There were no immediate reports concerning casualties or major damage.
