Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday presented the country's highest civilian award to U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher.
Zardari presented the Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam Medal, or Crescent of the Great Leader, to Boucher during a ceremony at the President's House, said an official statement.
Boucher is in Islamabad for a visit amid the tensions between Pakistan and India after the Mumbai terror attacks.
"As Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, Ambassador Boucher has been instrumental in promoting a stable, broad-based and long-term Pakistan-U.S. relationship," said the statement.
"Mr. Boucher has been visiting Pakistan frequently for deepening bilateral cooperation in diverse areas as well as promoting shared objectives for regional peace, stability and prosperity," it said.
