U.S. Vice President-elect Joseph Biden will pay a two-day visit to Pakistan this week in a bid to defuse the tension between Pakistan and India after the Mumbai terror attacks, local media reported Monday.

Biden, accompanied by a high-level congressional delegation, is likely to arrive in Pakistan on Jan. 9, Daily Times newspaper quoted diplomatic sources as saying.

Biden is expected to meet Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani during his stay, reports said.

The vice president-elect may discuss with the Pakistani leaders the war on terror, Pakistan-India tensions and one 15-billion-dollar aid package for Islamabad.
