Bangladesh's new Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet sworn in Bangabhaban (President House) here Tuesday evening.

Hasina, 61, the president of majority party Awami League, was sworn in as Prime Minister along with 31 members of her cabinet, completing the country's transition to democracy after two-year ruling of caretaker government.

Bangladesh's President Iajuddin Ahmed administered the oath to the Prime Minister Hasina first, who ruled the country as prime minister once in 1996 to 2001.

Later, the President administered the oath to 23 ministers and eight state ministers of Hasina's new cabinet in two batches.

"I will be obedient to Bangladesh. I will do everything as per the constitution," the cabinet members said in their oath. They later also signed on their oath letters.

All the members of the cabinet are from the Awami League-led 15-party alliance, who won a landslide victory in the country's ninth parliamentary election last month.

However, the portfolios of the cabinet members are not available yet.

Analysts said old Awami League leaders who were in the previous cabinet in 1996-2001 were dropped. And new and young faces dominate the new cabinet.

Local private TV channel ATN reported that four more cabinet-level advisers will join the new government later.

Nearly 1,000 guests were invited to the ceremony including diplomats of foreign countries.

Hasina-led Awami League bagged 230 out of all 300 parliament seats in the parliament election while the 15-party grand alliance got 262 seats.

A majority of newly-elected members of the country's ninth parliament were sworn in on Jan. 3 and Jan. 4, while MPs-elect of the opposition are not yet take oath.

Hasina on Jan. 3 was elected as Leader of the House (leader of the majority party in parliament) and was invited by the President on Jan. 5 to form the new cabinet.
